While the designers are sources internationally, the look here is definitely girly, although not as one-dimensional as Whistles next-door. This Japanese-owned two-floor boutique is above trend, despite its status as one of London’s first and most exclusive multi-designer shops. Sales assistants are low-key and friendly, a rarity in exclusive Brompton Cross. Tokio was the first retailer to stock hot designer du jour Luella Bartley and continues to strike the right balance between up-and-coming and established designers, safe and daring. Labels include Eley Kishimoto, Burberry, Naohiro Matsuo, Clements Ribeiro and Elspeth Gibson, featuring everything from chunky knits to 40s style skirts. At the back of the boutique, you’ll find sweet wispy pieces of jewellery (barely there gold thread with semi-precious stones for example make great gifts), handbags, and other accessories. Eveningwear is downstairs.
