One admires a well-cut black wool suit and reaches to try it on when a flash of acid green taunts the eye. Some mischievous English tailor seems to have lined this men’s jacket in gleaming green silk. That’s Paul Smith exactly: a gentleman’s tailor with a sense of humor. His tartan vests come in fluorescent plaids and his silk ties in a lurid fuchsia. Other amusing little trinkets include “Billy” and “Carlos” dolls, flamboyantly costumed anti-Kens (in case Barbie needs a decorator for her Malibu Beach House). Sunglasses guaranteed to make you look like an It-boy and toy-like silver cufflinks urge you to fiddle around a bit at the store. First there was Monty Python and now Paul Smith.
